Barry Tibbetts

Born: 1950

General: Originally from Barnet, but have now lived in Milton Keynes for the past 30 years. Currently working as a Health & Safety Inspector and Trainer in the storage and warehousing industry. Married with 2 sons and 5 grandchildren.

Cacti & Succulent History: Joined the North London Branch as a junior in the late 1950s. When I married and moved to Dunstable, I joined the Luton Branch for a few years, but have now been at Northampton and Milton Keynes Branch for the last 25 years. I was persuaded to join the committee, and became Show Secretary for 11 years until 2007, when I became Branch Chairman. I finally qualified as a Judge in 2004, and joined the Shows Committee in 2007, where I keep busy helping to organise and run Judges Courses and National Shows. I also belong to the International Euphorbia Society and the Mammillaria Society. Looking at my collection of plants, I guess my favourite genera are Echinocereus, Neoporteria, Euphorbia and Aloe, although I grow most of the others as well.

Other Interests: I have a lifelong passion for anything to do with railways – both real and model. I am also deeply interested in other areas of horticulture, and belong to the British Conifer Society, the International Camellia Society, and the Rhododendron, Camellia and Magnolia special interest group of the RHS.
