About membership

Whether you are an expert grower or a novice – or are just thinking of starting up the hobby – the Society will guide you all the way, with around 70 Branches throughout the UK meeting monthly you will have the opportunity to meet other enthusiasts and to learn more about growing these amazing plants. CactusWorld, the Society’s beautifully illustrated quarterly magazine is just one of the many benefits that members receive. It contains articles about new species, plants in the wild, cultivation techniques and, of course, what the Society’s many branches and members are up to.

When you join you will receive:

  • Some packets of seeds so you can have a go at seed-raising
  • A free set of cultivation leaflets in a handy folder
  • Access to CactusWorld for the year

Branch meetings are a key part of the Society’s membership network and when you join your local representative will get in touch. You will receive a warm welcome at your local branch where you can get help and advice on:

  • Sources of plants; most branch meetings have plants (and sometimes seeds) for sale
  • The challenges of growing and propagating
  • Soil mixtures, potting, watering and heating
  • Identifying plants

We also have an active forum and social media presence, which you are free to take part in as a non member or non-member:

Of course, membership does not only bring direct benefits to you. By joining the BCSS you will be supporting the Society’s work in the conservation of cacti and succulents in the wild, and helping us to educate and inform the public about these important and fascinating plants.
